Precision Cutting From Booker Timber

CNC Cutting,MDF — Tags: , , — Booker Timber @ 9:45 am

Our Operation

Booker Timber has a great heritage of making complex cuts to a wide range of different materials including plywood and MDF. This is where we specialise, since we have invested in both the state of the art CNC cutting machinery and the most knowledgeable staff to achieve an accuracy of 0.1 millimetres. Of course, powerful computers loaded with the right software enable us to very rapidly create and finalise your designs, improving our efficiency considerably. Theoretically, the software can handle any size of cutting sheet you desire, but the machines themselves are always destined to be physically limited. Nevertheless, we boast some of the largest CNC Beam saws in the United Kingdom being able to take plywood, chipboard, OSB, hardboard, MFC and MDF sheets up to 6 metres long by 4 metres wide and 90 mm thick. We can therefore accept a wide variety of different sheets for all sorts of different applications.

Experience And Optimisation

Due to our considerable experience with cutting, we have both the capacity to handle large orders and very bespoke ones. By investing in some of the best cutting software around we can also produce cuts very rapidly while minimising waste and thereby saving money. Ultimately, we will use fewer boards to fulfill your order than other companies which translates to a better deal for you. When we cut to size MDF, for instance, we typically very little left over and can therefore offer you very competitive prices, particularly for large orders.

We are also the full solution. If you want your cuts to then be packaged, labelled, plastic wrapped and strapped, we can do it all, and exactly as you desire. Being able to do all this in-house is a huge advantage to both of us since we have refined the processes so jobs run very quickly and smoothly, with the minimum of transportation or the likelihood of damage when fulfilling each aspect. Again, no matter how big your order is, we will be able to cope and deliver to the dates we set.

Our machines are also highly optimised and well maintained. These machines are built to be high precision while our team have the ability to program the software to the exact requirements of our clients. The blade configuration we employ as well as our quality control measures ensure that melamine faced panels remain chip free. Our CNC routers can accept boards with a size of 3050 mm by 1220 mm and can be drilled, grooved, shaped, chamfered and profiled.

Working With Us

We can adapt to your designs no matter what they are, no matter how rough or how detailed. By contacting us you will be able to understand how we work and what we offer. In the past we have taken roughly sketched ideas by hand and realised them in the best possible way. Typically, however, our clients usually send us designs in the file formats .dwg or .dxf. We take orders from a wide variety of different sectors from multinational businesses to small, local operations.

New EU Timber Laws on Way

CNC Cutting — Tags: , , — Booker Timber @ 9:22 am

New European rules, to come into force on March 3, will ban the selling of illegally harvested timber or timber products and outline how those who trade on the EU market will need to comply.

The new legislation covers a wide selection of goods, from solid wood products to plywood and sheets for veneering. And the rules are the first in Europe to halt the illegal timber trade, although a similar law is already in place to cover the market in the United States.

In Britain, organisations such as the National Measurement Office (NMO) will be responsible for checking compliance with the new legislation, and imposing penalties for failures to comply.

The British Woodworking Federation, which has published a six-page guide to the legislation for members, said: “Any joinery company buying and selling timber products from within the EU market, or importing, will be affected by the new law, although by how much will vary.

“In some cases, compliance may just be a question of recording sales and purchases, in others, more complex systems could be needed to reduce any potential risk of selling illegal timber or timber products.”

Merchants are being encouraged to make themselves familiar with the new legislation, and how their responsibilities could change once it becomes law. At the same time, further clarification is due to be made over the next few months as to what exactly businesses need to do, as fresh information from the relevant authorities and monitoring organisations becomes available.

Information on MDF

Sheets,Timber — Tags: , , — Booker Timber @ 9:24 am

MDF has been in mass production now since the 1980’s. It is used predominantly in the DIY scene, as it has many advantages over natural wood. The biggest of these advantages being price. As MDF is man-made, there is no waiting for the tree to grow, or process of drying the timber, which means that costs are kept low. MDF is used mainly as a cheap substitute for wood, but with the right cut and finish, can have a good effect.

MDF, also known as Medium Density Fibreboard is an engineered wood product made by breaking down either hardwood or softwood residuals, mixing them with wax and resin to produce a versatile board material. MDF has many advantages and disadvantages due to its manmade nature.

Home MDF cutting can be frustrating. The fibrous nature of MDF means that it can be susceptible to splitting when having a generic saw taken to it. Also, MDF does not react well with screws or nails, so advice is generally given to use strong wood glues or araldite for fixing purposes. MDF sheets are a very versatile material however, and any workman or keen DIYer should have experience with this material.

MDF is generally used in similar ways that old plywood and other man made wood products are used. However MDF tends to be stronger, and as it is denser, it can tend to be much more durable. These properties make it the perfect substance for using at home or in the commercial sector.

Timber that is Environmentally and Economically Sound

When you ask people in Britain what their two chief concerns are right now, most of them will answer you with ‘the economy’ and ‘the environment’. Indeed, economic growth has been much slower than hoped and the major industrial nations of the world are still dragging their heels with regard to the environment.

Sourcing timber
The state of economy and concern for the environment is very much in the mind of many companies that need to source timber for their operations. These companies generally have less money in their budgets than they once did and know that their customers will insist that the timber they use must be environmentally friendly in both its sourcing and its operations.

Thankfully, help is at hand

Precision cutting
We here at Booker Timber are timber merchants who understand the concerns of businesses and consumers alike. Our environmental awareness and cost-effective operations means that we can provide a fast and professional service that delivers accurate results with eco-friendly timber.
Our hi-tech optimisation software enables us to calculate the most efficient way to cut all kinds of materials, from cut to size chipboard to MDF sheets. This precision cutting means that not only is the amount of waste for each order considerably reduced, but also that customers may well require less boards to complete their order. Happily, the consequences of this are that both the planet and our customers’ budgets get a much needed helping hand.

Environmentally Conscious Timber CNC Cutting

CNC Cutting — Tags: , , , — Booker Timber @ 3:07 pm

It is a fundamental rule of business that success comes from respecting and maximising the resources at your disposal. Finding the perfect source for one of your services and exploiting it into exhaustion is not good business sense, although this is akin to the way that some timber trades have operated in the past. At Booker Timber, we are proud to be ethical, taking several important steps, with the assistance of the latest technology, to ensure that our services do not cause extensive damage to the planet.

By making careful use of CNC cutting machines and intelligent design software, we can make certain that the waste we produce is kept to an absolute minimum. Our CNC beam saws are some of the largest in the country, allowing us to process even bulk orders efficiently and precisely, within a 0.1mm accuracy tolerance. In addition to this, all of our timber is Chain of Custody certified, allowing us peace of mind regarding the carbon footprint of our trade and the sustainability of our resources.

This means that whether you need cut to size chipboard or MDF sheets as a tradesman, a corporation or a DIY-enthusiast, we can help you to source ecologically-friendly, precision-cut materials for the job. If you’re not sure what kind of timber you might need for a particular job, we can offer our assistance and advice which stems from years of experience. We are also happy to cut free issue timber, and offer competitive prices on timber delivery, too.

Cut to Size MDF

CNC Cutting — Tags: , , , — Booker Timber @ 11:32 am

MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) is created by breaking small wood pieces down to the component fibres and remaking into a solid material. The components are usually sawdust and other by-products of the timber industry, so MDF sheets are an environmentally friendly option. When we need to cut down a tree, products like this let us use the whole thing with very little waste.

Because MDF is reworked from small particles it doesn’t contain knots. No piece of solid timber is uniform. They all contain knots (areas of high density), rings, or points of weakness. The finished fibreboard doesn’t, so it can be cut and shaped easily and precisely. Our computerised CNC routing machines can produce exact shapes with no chips or splinters.

Getting your fibreboard pre-cut is a good idea. It’s a great material, but because of the nature of the manufacturing process, cutting it releases considerable quantities of fine wood dust and airborne resins that can be dangerous if accidentally inhaled. All our workshops are very well ventilated and we follow best practice safety guidelines at all times. It pays to be careful when dealing with MDF.

We offer cut to size MDF to almost any specifications. Whether you only need a few pieces or want to place a massive bulk order, Booker Timber should be your first port of call. Our machinery represents the latest and best technology and our staff have the experience to use it well. We know MDF inside and out and can provide whatever you need at reasonable rates.

Cut to Size MDF MFC and More

Timber — Tags: , , , , — Booker Timber @ 12:03 pm

The best way to ensure that your upcoming DIY or building projects are the best they can be is by finding respectable and enthusiastic merchants for the basic materials, such as timber. At Booker Timber, we aim to provide beautiful quality timber and an efficient timber cutting service to all of our customers.

Whether you need cut to size MDF or something more substantial, we can provide Chain of Custody certified timber for the job; high quality and sourced in an environmentally-friendly manner. We make a conscious effort to be an ecologically responsible company, minimising waste by implementing careful design and planning. This planning can save you money too, keeping the amount of chipboard that you might need, for example, as low as possible.

We are able to achieve this thanks to our CNC beam saws, which are amongst the UK’s largest of their kind. They have the capacity to process large volumes of timber at one time, cutting to within 0.1mm accuracy. Operated by our experienced staff and programmed using clever software, these precise saws allow us to make the most out of each sheet cutting, even when producing seemingly awkward shapes.

Our services are priced competitively and we pride ourselves on our efficient, accurate, environmentally-friendly timber cutting and packaging. We can also cut free issue timber and are happy to offer advice upon the benefits of different varieties of wood for those embarking on a DIY or construction project which is outside their usual realm of knowledge.
